Background
Field sets make it possible to enter data in bulk from the Tests list page. Common use cases for this function are:
- Fill in results for multiple samples on one screen.
- Fill in sample weights for multiple samples on one screen.
- Fill in multiple worksheet fields for multiple tests on one screen.
The data entry screen will resemble a spreadsheet making it easy to navigate and quickly fill in results as shown in the example below:
This article will cover the following:
- How to configure a field set
- How to fill in data in a field set
How to Configure a Field Set
Field sets can be configured for both Samples and Tests. In this article, we will be looking at only configuring Test-level fields (for example Test Results). To configure Sample-level field sets, similar instructions can be followed on the Samples list page.
Let's get started with configuring a Test-level field set that allows you to rapidly input Test Results. To do so, navigate to Workflow > Tests > All, then click on the gear icon on the right side of the screen as shown below, and click Edit Field Sets:
This will bring you to a page where you can add, remove, or edit Field Set configurations for Tests. Next, we will create a Field Set configuration to make Test Results entry possible. Click + New Field Set, to start configuring a new Field Set, then give it a name, such as "Test Results".
Adding Fields
The next step is to add a list of specific fields that we'd like to be able to fill in from the Tests list page. Each field we add can either be an "Object" or "Worksheet" field. An object field would pertain to a fillable field on the Test object, and the worksheet field would be any field contained within a Test worksheet.
To get started, click + Field Configuration, to start adding fields. In our example, we want to fill in the "Results" field, which is an object field, so the configuration should appear as follows:
When you are done configuring your fields you can click "Save".
Using Field Sets
Now that we've configured our Field Set, we can use it to fill in results. To do so, navigate to the Tests list page and checkmark any tests that you'd like to fill in results for, and then click Action > Fill Field Sets, as shown below:
You can now select the configuration we created in the previous step titled "Test Results" (or whatever name you had set), then click Submit. You will now see a spreadsheet type screen to input your results as shown below. After you are done you may click Close.
And that's it! You can now fill in data in bulk across multiple Tests (or Samples).
